Complet du bandeau "préfaces d'André Breton". Recueil de lettres de Jacques Vaché envoyées à André Breton, Théodore Fraenkel, Louis Aragon et Harry James alors qu'il était au front, ou en prison. Ces lettres sont précédées de quatre préfaces d'André Breton, grand ami de Vaché, qui eut une profonde influence sur lui et sur le mouvement surréaliste. Breton écrira à propos de ces lettres de guerre qu'elles sont "une magnifique introduction à tout ce qui recouvre l'étiquette Dada. Il y a là tous les manifestes qu'on voudra, pas une négation ne manque" dans une lettre à Jacques Doucet datant du 4 janvier 1921. En fin d'ouvrage, l'article L'Opium, extrait de L'Express de l'Ouest du 9 janvier 1919, reproduit en fac-similé, dans lequel est annoncée la mort de Jacques Vaché et de l'un de ses amis, à la suite de l'absorption d'une trop forte dose d'opium et dans lequel les deux victimes sont présentées à la fois comme de "jeunes écervelés" sans expérience de la drogue ainsi que comme "de braves soldats qui avaient fait leur devoir devant l'ennemi et avaient été blessés". L'ouvrage contient aussi un fac-similé d'une lettre d'Harry James. Bel exemplaire. Couverture rigide
