First and only Turkish edition with bilingual title and foreword with English (pp. I-XVI), of this rare book published after the first description of the Black Sea fishes has been performed by Pallas in 1811, containing the most complete information about the species composition of fishes in the Black Sea is given by Slastenenko (1955-1956), who listed 237 species, with characteristic features species, its distribution, biology, ecology, taxonomy, commercial and nutritional significance, conservation status with attractive plates. "This is the book of knowledge acquired through research carried on since three-quarters of a century in the neighboring countries bordering the Black Sea." (From the Preface by Ekrem Barlas). "This manuscript gives for the first time, a general summary of the marine and freshwater fishes in the Black Sea Basin. In the last century, a series of documents on the fauna of the Aral-Pontic, Caspian Basin has been published by K. Kessler and other authors. But, Since then, several investigations on the fauna of fishes of the Black Sea Basin made by individuals and expeditions revealed the existence of entirely different conditions. Therefore some deceased species have been described. Furthermore, as a result of the migration of the Mediterranean fauna into the Black Sea, the lists have become richer with the addition of many species which were unknown earlier. This book consists of two sections: 1. Special section which deals with the study of the composition of the fish fauna, and its systematic and biological characteristics. 2. The section consists of a summary of the historical study of the Black Sea fauna, its genesis, and a short hydrological and geological history of the sea. In the special section, 237 species and subspecies have been described. These belong to 20 groups, 56 families, and 122 genera. Acquaforte misure: mm 137 x 200 Incisore e disegnatore italiano, probabilmente anche architetto e ingegnere attivo a Firenze eccetto che per un breve soggiorno nei Paesi Bassi fra il 1612 e il 1613. Non si formò presso l’accademia di Giulio Parigi a Firenze, come venne dichiarato, tuttavia collaborò spesso con lui, per esempio nel 1608 incise due serie di bulini inerenti il teatro di Giulio Parigi. La sua prima opera documentata è datata 1603, anno anche di una serie di acqueforti rappresentanti paesaggi. Lo stile delle sue primissime opere è influenzato da Paul Bril, ma il suo modo di creare la prospettiva attraverso l’intensificazione delle ombre rimanda ad Antonio Tempesta, è interessante notare che Cantagallina fu uno dei primi artisti ad adottare una nuova visione della natura, non più fantastica e spaventosa, ma vicina alla concretezza dei temi quotidiani. Per la realizzazione di questa stampa l’autore ha sottoposto la lastra, di fondato esagonale, a diverse morsure al fine di ottenere linee di diverso peso e spessore con l’intento di creare un paesaggio immerso in un'atmosfera sognante. Sullo sfondo si intravede una favolosa città arroccata su un'isola, circondata dalle acque del mare solcate in lontananza da piccole imbarcazioni, nel cielo volano quattro uccelli e dalle nuvole pare scendere una pioggia sferzante. Sulla sinistra una barca a vela ed un uomo di spalle sembra stia muovendo le braccia per dare delle indicazioni a chi si trova sulla barca. Sulla destra, sotto una parete rocciosa, si nasconde una piccola abitazione circondata da alberi dalle ricche fronde, alcune trafitte dai raggi solari altre lasciate in ombra, e attraverso una stradina passeggia un uomo. In basso a sinistra inciso, "CRG. IN. PCG EX." e al centro "1625”. La lastra appartine ad una serie di sei paesaggi, sconosciuti al Bartsch ma catalogati da Nagler che suggerisce di sciogliere il monogramma come Remigio Cantagallina inventore ed incisore e Giulio Parigi editore. Impressione eccellente. Ampi margini oltre la battuta del rame. Ottimo stato di conservazione eccetto uno strappo di 7mm che interessa il solo margine bianco. Filigrana: Stella a sette punte simile a Briquet 6052. Bibliografia: Nagler 632

Il suo segno è riconoscibile, di impianto manierista tratta le ombreggiature accostando linee parallele, scandisce i piani con un approccio teatrale a quinte sovrapposte; l’influsso nordico si riconosce nelle tipiche sagome tondeggianti delle fronde. Questa stampa fa parte della serie, composta da 19 acqueforti, intitolata Navi degli Argonauti che documenta il combattimento navale rappresentato in Arno a Firenze nel 1608 in occasione delle nozze di Cosimo de Medici, erede al trono di Toscana, e Maria Maddalena d’Austria. In questa tavola, la numero 18 tratta da un soggetto di Iacopo Ligozzi, vediamo solcare i mari per la conquista del vello d'oro un'imbarcazione a forma di pavone dall'occhiuta chioma che porta sul dorso, seduti su di un trono, tre soldati quello centrale caratterizzato da un elmetto riccamente piumato. Oltre l'immagine incisi titolo e a destra "Battaglia navale rapp in Arno per le nozze del Ser. Princ di Tosc l'an 1608 Iacopo Ligosta I'", mentre nell'immagine al centro, a destra il monogramma di Remigio Cantagallina. Impressione eccellente. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Rifilata alla battuta del rame nel margine inferiore. Filigrana: corona nel cerchio. Bibliografia: Bartsch XX.63.37, Bertelà 95
