21635National Wildlife Restoration Week now known as National Wildlife Week is the National Wildlife Federation's longest-running public education program. When it was launched in March 1938 the week was dedicated to establishing government responsibility for restoration and conservation of wildlife. Goals included securing adequate funding for the U.S. Bureau of Biological Survey and Bureau of Fisheries; establishing governmental jurisdiction over preventing pollution and misuse of waterways; and increased enforcement of federal and state laws that protect wildlife. Over time it has come to focus on educating the public about environmental conservation and the preservation of natural resources and lands for wildlife and communities. The design on this poster which depicts a lone goose flying above a man-man made desert and burned forest was by a 22-year-old art student who beat out more than 100 others in a competition. Barker's art was used on the first National Wildlife Restoration Week poster in 1938 and again in 1939 with the addition of a calendar to the design. It was also produced on a postage stamp.

The poster measures 31 x 22. It is missing a small chip at the lower left corner and has a few short closed tears that have been mended on the verso with archival tape as well as some creasing at a few spots on the edges. It is not backed and has been stored rolled. It remains quite attactive and its flaws would be covered if framed. unknown books

A bibliographically curious prospectus announcing the forthcoming publication by the Black Faun Press - an affiliate of the Press of James A. Decker - of the anthology eventually printed at the Walpole Printing Office and published under the imprint of the Gotham Book Mart in 1941 under a slightly variant title. The prospectus calls for both the limited and trade issues that were actually published but any actual involvement of the Black Faun Press in the published book seems not to have come about or to have fallen apart in the planning stages.
