Het grootste deel van hun leven brengen ze door in het koude, heldere water van de noordelijke oceanen. Ze jagen er op de grote scholen vissen die daar leven. Maar op een dag gaan ze weer op reis. Terug naar precies hetzelfde beekje waar ze geboren zijn. Dan zijn het grote, sterke vissen geworden die soms wel 25 tot 30 kilo kunnen wegen. Die terugreis maken ze om zich voort te planten. Want dat kunnen ze alleen maar in zoet water. Nieuw.
