2004739<p>Music is a central design element in advertising. Despite this relevance advertising research in this area is only rudimentary fragmentary and contradictory. The author attributes this situation to misunderstandings regarding the functioning of music. Instead of reducing music to an affective stimulus this work develops a model of music as a cultural system with potential expressiveness based on current studies in musicology and communication studies. Interpretive advertising research which has thus far focused on the analysis of text and image forms the theoretical basis. By integrating music an interpretive advertising model is now available that can capture and describe the various forms of interaction across all communicative modes.</p> Peter Lang paperback
