The last volume in this set includes 'Traité de l"Aimant'.This was an incredibly important resource on the subject of natural history in eighteenth century France providing a wealth of information on all living things.'Histoire Naturelle des Mineraux' was a departure from the rest of Buffon's 'Histoire Naturelle' set as 'Mineraux' was not illustrated. With his enormously influential "Histoire Naturelle" Buffon 1707-88 became the first person to present the natural world as one unified whole entirely explicable in scientific terms and in a popular form. Modern evolutionary biologist Ernst Mayr called Buffon "the father of all thought in natural history in the second half of the 18th century" and declared that the "Natural History" was read by "every educated person in Europe." His natural history written in an elegant style can be rightfully considered as belonging to world literature.
