ABOUT THE BOOK:- The Wind in the Willows is a children's novel by British novelist Kenneth Grahame. The novel has the following significant aspects: Alternately slow-moving and fast-paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphized animals {Mole, Rat (a European water vole), Toad, and Badger} in a pastoral version of Edwardian England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie, and celebrated for its evocation of the nature of the Thames Valley. It is a book of linked animal tales that began as a series of bedtime stories for Kenneth’s son. It is the beautifully written work that became a classic of English children’s literature. The book has evocative descriptions of the countryside interspersed with exciting adventures. In 2003, The Wind in the Willows was listed at #16 in the BBC's survey The Big Read. More than a century after its original publication, it was adapted again for the stage, as a 2016 musical by Julian Fellowes. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Kenneth Grahame was a British author of The Wind in the Willows (1908), one of the classics of children’s literature. He was born in Edinburgh, Midlothian County, Scotland, on 8 March 1859. He was the third child born to Bessie nee Inglis and Cunningham Grahame, lawyer. He had three siblings: Helen, Willie, and Roland. Orphaned at an early age, Grahame went to live with his grandmother in England and attended St. Edward’s School, Oxford. Money was lacking for him to go to the university. Hence, his family guided him into a career at the Bank of England, with which he stayed until ill health compelled him to retire in 1908. Meanwhile, he contributed articles to such journals as the St. James Gazette and the Yellow Book and published collections of sketches, stories, and essays—Pagan Papers (1893), The Golden Age (1895), and Dream Days (1898)—all of which reveal his sensitive understanding of childhood.
