She attended his classes for 10 years eventually taking over this course which she ran from 1966-1983. In 1960 she was appointed to the post of Botanical Illustrator and Artist to the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and illustrated many plates in the famous periodical "Curtis's Botanical Magazine." 20030384932003. Painting. Illus. by Ann Smith. Very Good. Framed. A fine framed and glazed original botanical watercolour painting of Papaver somniferum 360 x 250 mm frame 530 x 420 mm with a double white acid-free conservation mount cream-coated wooded frame. By the late botanical artist Ann Smith signed and dated 2003. Artwork in excellent condition. Provenance: with a label to the reverse stating "Watercolour Papaver somniferum Exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society London 2004. By Ann Smith Chipping Campden". Artist's biography: Ann Smith was a goldsmith by trade a highly skilled artisan working out of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds but with a passion for botanical illustration. She was a member of various botanical art societies; she exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society RHS Botanical Art exhibitions held in The Lindley Hall London; for the 2004 exhibition she prepared a mixed collection of botanical works including studies of Romneya coulteri and Papaver orientalis 'Beauty of Livermere' in a later exhibition she presented a themed collection featuring various Meconopsis blue popy species and cultivars. Ann Smith was an accomplished botanical artist who painted with great fidelity her plants morphologically accurate and finely detailed but her paintings are always well composed and perhaps it is this her strong sense of composition that is her greatest quality. We hold a number of original paintings by this artist so please enquire if you are looking for particular botanical subjects. Shipping cost will require an adjustment. unknown
