Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium (gepubliceerd in 1705) was het werk van een zeer ondernemende en zelfstandige vrouw Maria Sibylla Merian. Zij reisde hiervoor in 1699 speciaal naar Suriname om daar onderzoek te doen naar de voortplanting en de ontwikkeling van insecten.
