Two important French revolutionary agricultural guides bound together in one volume. 319 pp plus allegorical frontispiece engraving of Cincinnatus by Halbou after Le Barbier; 161 pp. Both works are printed on very fine laid paper. ***The first work is the first edition of Romme's "Annuaire de Cultivateur", with contributions by many notable citizens, including Lamarck. It is a kind of encyclopedia of agricultural knowledge in the form of an almanac based on the French revolutionary calendar, substituting the names of plants and animals for the saints. There are many printings dating from 1795; this is the most complete, and features a charming engraved frontispiece. ***The second work, on fertilization of land, had first appeared in 1773 (69 pp). This 1796 edition is the second and last, and is much improved and expanded. *** 8vo. Bound in calf-backed boards (lightly worn and very sound). Internally FINE AND BRIGHT. Both works are important, and early editions are rare.
