The book is in Very Good condition and it has the scarce dust jacket though the dust jacket is in Fair only condition. The book has a leather spine and corners quarter leather and linen cloth covers. The spine and edges of the leather have rubbing and wear along with fading to the color. The text pages are in clean bright condition. There is a previous owner's inked name and date on the front endpaper. The dust jacket is missing its spine and has wear nicking and chipping to the edges." Adeline E. "Delle" Knapp March 14 1860 – June 6 1909 was an American journalist author social activist environmentalist and educator who is today remembered largely for her relationship with Charlotte Perkins Gilman which was likely romantic. In her lifetime Knapp was known as a fixture of the turn-of-the-century San Francisco Bay Area literary scene. An outspoken writer who often addressed controversial topics in her columns for The San Francisco Call Knapp wrote on a wide range of subjects from livestock to the Annexation of Hawaii. Though often drawn to progressive causes like child labor and conservation Knapp also tended to espouse reactionary views as evidenced by her Anti-Chinese sentiments and criticisms of the women's suffrage movement. Exterior is spotted and soiled along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The top of spine is chipped and the lower spine has cracking on both the face and both hinges the rear hinge being about 50%. The internal binding overall good but there is a missing front end page. There are no hinge cracks at the boards but the title page is detached at the very bottom about 2 inches worth. The pages still securely attached but the tear is seen in one of the photos. On page 169 there is another tear this one goes from the bottom left towards the son of the page about 2.5 inches in length. There is also the original owners info lightly penciled on the back of the first end page. The rear to end pages also contain handwriting in pencil mostly name and personal info with the last end page containing additional handwriting. No handwriting was found on any of the text pages.
