Green cloth boards with gold embossed lettering on cover and spine with black embossed jungle motif. Perforated stamp on title page and gift inscription on front endpaper with "1895". Cloth on upper 1/3rd of spine has partially detatched from one side of the hinge. Corners worn and bumped, red "X" at bottom of page ends, general edge wear. Several color plates often with the tissue protective cover missing. A great many b&w engravings in fine and lavish detail. This book has pages 1 -- 288 and covers Mammals, Carnivores (bears, raccoons, weasels, eared seals, walruses and seals and ungulates.)

Hardcover, very good condition. Beautifully bound in full red Morocco by German binder Zaehnsdorf. Exquisite gilt tooling on the inner edges of the boards with silk pastedowns and end papers. Raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine. There is some minor wear to the corners and spine ends with a rubbed patch to front of the spine head and edges. Some minor marks to the rear board and slightly sunned spine. Internally there is some foxing to the first few front and rear pages but none to the text and some leaching of the red from the silk FEP to the reverse page. Previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown (evidently a stag hunter from the design!). Includes a fold out map of Exmoor. The text is bright and clear throughout. DP Used

Lots of images of women/girl creatures half insect/sea creature, with tentacles, sexualized animals, in a gilded upper class, rococo style. Contains six cards in a packet with a girl/woman showing herself. Similar to Mark Ryden.
