A fine decorative Broadside- these Rules of the Library were translated from the Latin register of the Merton College Oxford University. Every member of the college was required to take an oath on admission that he would obey these rules- here reprinted by the Woolly Whale Press New York 1939. The four rules as follows: I. Robeson 1898-1976 born April 9 1898 Princeton New Jersey; died January 23 1976 Philadelphia Pennsylvania; Black American singer and actor; Jerome Kern wrote the song "Ol' Man River" for Robeson which he sang in the play 1928 and the movie 1936. Whale 1896-1957 born July 22 1896 Dudley England; died May 29 1957 Hollywood California; English actor set designer and then director; imported to Hollywood in 1930 to direct the screen version of his state success "Journey's End"; best remembered for his four stylish horror films "Frankenstein"; "The Old Dark House"; "The Invisible Man" and "The Bride of Frankenstein"; retired from film in early 1940's to pursue painting; drowned in his swimming pool under mysterious circumstances.</p>

Handset in the original English Caslon Old Face type and printed damp on Arnold Unbleached paper by George W. Van Vechten Jr. Pp. 20. 8vo. original quarter vellum over brown paper covered boards image of a printing press enclosed within a decorative border blind embossed to upper cover lettering in gilt to spine t.e.g others uncut. A very good copy.Originally printed by Morris on his Albion Press with an account of its travels following the closure of the Kelmscott Press in 1898 written by Melbert Cary who acquired it from the Aries Press in 1932 who in turn had got it from Frederic Goudy who had bought it from James Guthrie of the Pear Tree Press in the UK.
