Jeffersons work first appeared in 1791 when he was Secretary of State and is considered the best work on whaling before the American Revolution. Sabines work was originally published in 1853. It is still an important work on the fisheries. Sabines book is difficult to find in the original printing Jeffersons work of course much more so.
