1950c503jWatts & Co 1950. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Very unusual - the first exact reprint of the first edition: "When the first edition appeared in November 1859 Sir Charles Lyell protested at this speculation. Darwin replied "Will you send me one line to say whether I must strike out about the secondary whale it goes to my heart." In all later editions it was struck out. Note that apart from the many alterations in the manuscript of the passage must have been again heavily corrected in the proof since many differences appear in the first edition page 158 of the present reprint." The boards are shelf rubbed and edge worn but remain square and sturdy. Internally there is a previous owner's signature under the front board along with light tanning and sporadic foxing throughout. There are no other markings or inscriptions and the pages within are crisp and complete. The binding is secure. JK. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
