Le maréchal de Belle-Isle (1684-1761) était le petit-fils de Nicolas Fouquet, homme politique, maréchal de France et membre de l'Académie française. L'auteur recherche les moyens de résoudre la grave crise qui frappait le recrutement de la milice, conscription obligatoire dont la levée servait à compléter les armées royales. S'élevant contre les méthodes impliquant la violence ou la ruse, il soumet un vaste projet permettant de rendre le recrutement plus juste et plus utile à la société, en particulier en préservant les paysans nécessaires au pays et, par compensation, en supprimant les exemptions; particulièrement celles concernant les domestiques, peu utiles à la société, ainsi que celles des "enfants des petits bourgeois des villes" dont les parents seraient peu ou non imposables. WorldCat ne recense qu'un unique exemplaire de cette brochure dans le monde (National Libr. of Scotland). Elle manque au à la BnF et à l'ensemble des bibliothèques françaises. Bon exemplaire.

Première et unique édition française de 'Country gentleman and farmer's monthly director', précédé d'un discours préliminaire et traduit par D. Gourdon, selon Quérard. Dans la table, disposée sous forme d'index alphabétique, on retrouve tous les thèmes traités: abeilles, beurre, foin, moutarde, noix, etc. L'ouvrage est divisé en douze mois de l'année avec, pour chacun, les travaux s'y rapportant. "On trouvera dans cet ouvrage des préceptes & des instructions faciles sur les grains, les légumes, les plantations, les fruits, les bestiaux, la volaille la volaille, les étangs, les abeilles, etc." ("L'Année littéraire", 1755, II, p. 85). Magic lanterns also known as optical lanterns provided one of the most popular forms of entertainment during their heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1850 two Daguerreotypists in Philadelphia William and Frederick Langenheim invented a transparent positive image of a photograph in the form of a glass slide that could be projected onto a wall or screen using a Magic Lantern. Using an artificial light source and a combination of lenses these devices enlarged small transparency images or miniature models and projected them onto a wall or screen. dimensions : 85 cm x 10 cm. The photographer Arthur Radiguet died the year of this image in 1905 worked for the " la Maison Molteni" famous for their lantern images. Very rare to find such a aerial view of 1905 iran. In very good condition. unknown
