First edition of an important record of the botanical garden at Pisa which was founded around 1543 and was one of the finest and earliest gardens in Europe. Hunt notes that the alphabetical list of plants in this work is "one of the most important of the eighteenth century, and the volume memorializes the garden for all time." HISTORY OF AW BOON HAW TIGER BALM GARDENS" The most famous visitor's site in Hong Kong from 1935 was the celebrated "TIGER BALM GARDEN" also known as the "AW BOON HAW MANSION." It was a three-dimensional sculpture garden showing various Buddhist aspects of life death happiness sadness joy evil and justice. Typical concepts in Chinese Buddhism and Confucianism. THE HISTORY: In 1935 the landscaped garden was built at a cost of HK$16 million. It was one of the most favorite and popular sites in Hong Kong for seventy years. The Garden was demolished for redevelopment in 2004 thus for ever TIGER BALM GARDEN vanished for ever. CONDITION: This item is in excellent condition. This is a very good hardcover copy in blue cloth boards decorated and titled in gilt. Toned and soiled around the edges. Spine faded. Patterned endpapers darkened around the edges, but clean. Blank endpapers foxed. Otherwise clean throughout. This is the 2nd limited edition of 350 copies. One of the scarcest architectural books about Kentucky traditional architecture and gardens, and rare in any condition. It was produced with the assistance of a group of about 200 subscribers, who quickly brought out another edition after the first limited edition of 250 copies was gone. Illustrated throughout in black & white and printed on a heavy stock glossy paper, it has survived relatively well. All text and illustrations clean. It covers over 250 of the most interesting and historically significant structures in Kentucky. Almost all illustrated with at least one photograph. 12" high X 10" wide, 180 pages. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
