Folds; very good.</p> <p>Broadside advertising regular performances of African American “Plantation Spirituals†at South Carolina’s Cypress Gardens and sung “.entirely by local colored people connected with Dean Hall Plantation and its neighboring Promise Land Church.†The broadside and accompanying Cypress Gardens information sheet and map are of the tourist literature genre and likely date from the 1940s–1950s.¹</p> <p>“Cypress Gardens is offering a unique opportunity to hear a type of singing which has been part of American Folklore but is fast disappearing. Tall 8vo 84pp with fold-out panaoramic view in black and white and two fold-out plans 1873 and undated both in colour and another fold-out 'route plan'. And with black and white photographic plates to text. A good stapled copy with general wear and fraying. Covers are complete but spine is frayed with front cover partially detached. Minor foxing to front endpaper and heavily toned rear endpaper. The three staples show minor rusting. First and second fold-outs are clean. Third fold-out is foxed and torn mishandling and has been previously repaired using archival tape. The Preface has a line through the name of the 'late Director' W.R. Guilfoyle and is signed by 'J. Cronin. Director' beneath. J. Kemp, Government Printer, Melbourne. 1908. First Edition unknown
