His 136-acre homestead, Wildwood, situated on a lush Vancouver Island peninsula just south of Nanaimo B.C., has become the leading example of intelligent forestry on Canada's west coast and gained an international reputation as a prime example of sustainable logging. Merve, who was awarded both the Orders of British Columbia and of Canada for his life's work, is an activist of whom all Canadians should be proud.
