Era l'avanguardia dell'armata che poco più di un anno prima Hitler aveva lanciato a sopresa contro l'Unione Sovietica. L'esercito russo pareva in rotta. L'unica resistenza degna di nota fu opposta da un gruppo di studentesse che manovravano pezzi di artiglieria antiaerea. Gli uomini della Wehrmacht credevano di avere vinto.
