br. Ricostruire oggi l'avventura intera del poeta più 'romanzato' del '900 richiede ancora di tenere a bada le mitografie del folle orfico. La sua singolare fortuna, alterna ma in crescita lungo tutto il '900, è in questo modo arrivata all'occhio disincantato di un'epoca che sembrava aver già messo agli atti la morte del genere lirico insieme all'eclissi dell'immagine 'costruttiva' della letteratura. Eppure, un profilo come questo, che ricostruisce il denso background culturale di Campana, non elude il dato della singolare attualità dei Canti Orfici come linguaggio che prova a dire il senso della fine e un sogno di rinascita, la metamorfica (e ancora nostra) apocalissi del vivere, con la voce inconfondibile di un pensiero poetante divenuto opera, 'modernità' in primo luogo italiana, ma che delinea valori formali da collocare ormai nella grande tradizione 'orfica' della poesia europea, fra le voci più alte del '900: quelle di Trakl, di Rilke e di Valery. Ad essere dilucidato è qui il come, la forma di quel canto della fine e della rinascita, la sua grandezza incompiuta, figlia di una tragedia personale e di tutti (la Grande Guerra, la cosiddetta pazzia, l'internamento): una scommessa gettata nel frastuono dell'eccitata Italietta giolittiana con lo spirito del 'tramontare' (nutrito da una personalissima lettura di Nietzsche), che semina ancora una struggente empatia per la sua esemplarità perfino antropologica, quella di un'utopia e di una dissidenza...

Published by Kültür AS to mark the centenary of World War I, the book was inspired by the true story of a young ANZAC lieutenant and was written after secret Vatican documents were released thanks to the efforts of Rinaldo Marmara, the press secretary of Turkey's Catholic Bishops Conference and Cultural Attaché, who worked to uncover for them for three years. The book opens with historical documents that feature the correspondences between the Vatican, which was closely following the war, and its Istanbul representative, Monsieur Dolci. It then picks up momentum by featuring the family's letters to Pope Benedict XV that pleaded with him to find where lost soldiers were buried. Amid the chaos of war, Ottoman War Minister Enver Pasha paid particular attention to graves and ordered the generals to respect them, and even directly told soldiers to take care of them. Upon the request of English, French and Austrian families, the graves of dead soldiers were searched for.
