Blue cloth binding good with some general wear and rubbing to edges and corners gilt titling to spine contents clean but for a few newspaper cuttings pasted to the front pastedown and llibrary stamps. The previous owner's name C. E. Salmon Xmas 1897 is inked to the front free pastedown along with a few ticks to the margin of the corrections page. C. E.Salmon was the author of the first edition of Flora of Surrey. There is also a letter included regarding the finding of Herminium Monorchis Musk Orchid by A. B. Jackson. Text in Spanish. Occasional worm holes along the spine hinges cracked boards rubbed and chipped moderate to heavy foxing begins at page 347 and continues through the end; still a good copy of a scarce text. The author 1766-1853 wrote on political economy as well as Spain and its relations with the Western Hemisphere nations and colonies. The present book is the only New World edition although at least seven editions were printed in Europe starting in 1828. OCLC locates 3 copies. Size: Octavo standard book size. 2 iv 593 1 2. The floral images are of a floral wreath pink rose sweet pea fuchsia bachelor button white lily pansies geranium tulips red ivy leaves dogwood etc. The floral wreath has the name "Katie" in the center. The four pencil sketches are of pastoral scenes a man herding cattle near a lake a man starting to chop a massive tree down; two men on horseback with sheep riding past someone's' homestead greeting a carriage in the distance; a man walking near a river at sunset or sunrise. Very detailed on small format paper 8 1/2 x 6". Highlighted with gum arabic. <br /> <br /> The paintings are so detailed it is hard to believe they are original paintings. unknown

With a signature on the endpaper of the architect John Prizeman. The title page has the early signatures of Lady A. Fosterwho has added three cultivar names at the rear and Sibella M Veitch Werger & Burton attribute authorship to A.H.
