È un'opera molto rara che si conserva solo in alcune prestigiose biblioteche europee. Fu redatta dal gesuita polacco Michal Boym (1612-1659), un colto e impavido missionario che soggiornò a lungo nel Celeste Impero, dove descrisse numerosi esemplari di piante, frutti e animali, dedicando a ciascuno di essi realistiche immagini puntualmente corredate dai rispettivi nomi in latino e in cinese. Seguendo una tradizione ormai consolidata, Aboca ha realizzato un'edizione facsimilare della preziosa e affascinante opera con l'obiettivo di divulgare uno dei primi impatti sul continente europeo della millenaria sapienza medico-botanica orientale.
