Orig.-Halbleinen mit farbiger Vorderdeckelillustration. - Untere rechte Ecke des Vorderdeckels gering fingerfleckig. Einband etwas fleckig und angegraut. Neu aufgebunden, die etwas rostige Klammerheftung wurde durch eine Fadenheftung ersetzt, der Rücken unter Verwendung des alten Leinwandmaterials erneuert.
Acquaforte misure: mm 184 x 133 Pittore e incisore italiano del periodo barocco che si formò alla scuola di Pietro del Po (Palermo 1610 - Napoli 1692) operando con il maestro in diverse città come Napoli e Roma. Oltre a divenire un noto pittore imparò nella sua bottega la tecnica dell'incisoria. Le sue opere sono caratterizzate da un segno personale maturato nel tempo, linee flessuose rese tramite l'impiego di puntinato. I soggetti da lui affrontati sono per lo più traduzioni di autori classici quali: Raffaello, Annibale Carracci, Pietro da Cortona, Giovanni Lanfranco, Lazzaro Baldi, Ciro Ferri e Carlo Maratta. In questa stampa attraverso un segno ondulato che dona plasticità alle figure vediamo raccogliersi intorno alla Sacra Famiglia i Re Magi e due pastori in sandali e toghe. In una costruzione degradante, da sinistra verso destra, troviamo San Giuseppe uomo anziano e stanco, la Vergine seduta di profilo, giovane e avvolta in un lungo abito panneggiato che regge nel grembo il Bambino paffuto e con un lungo ciuffo di capelli colto nell'atto di voltarsi a guardare amorevolmente la madre. Il Bambino regge nelle mani una scatola che uno dei re magi gli ha donato. Sullo sfondo due cammelli, delle fronde e uno scorcio dell'architettura che da riparo alla Sacra famiglia. In basso sulla sinistra sulla superficie di una pietra sbrecciata la rappresentazione di profilo di un uomo e una donna, forse un'allegoria del mondo antico. In basso a destra è inciso "Pietro Aquela inventor et fecit". Si tratta quindi di una delle rare incisioni di invenzione dell'autore. Impressione eccellente dai delicati contrasti chiaroscurali su carta vergata. Ampi margini oltre la battuta del rame. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Bibliografia: Le Blanc n.18

Lugduni juxta exemplar Parisiis, è Typographia Regia, 1719, volumi 3, in-4, legatura coeva in mezza pergamena con titolo calligrafato ai dorsi, piatti in cartone decorato in bicromia, tagli spruzzati di rosso, pp. (6), XXXII, (16), 695, (10), 58, da 329 a 592, da 593 a 695, (11), 58. Bella vignetta (giardino botanico con loggiato) incisa alla carta A1 del tomo I, eleganti fregi al frontespizio e come testata, finali, capilettera in xilografia. Agli altri 2 tomi bel frontespizio calcografico ripetuto (angiolini in volo che sorreggono cartiglio con titolo inscritto sovrastanti veduta prospettica di giardino botanico) e complessive 314 tavole incise dal pittore Claude Aubriet (1665-1742), che aveva accompagnato Tournefort nel viaggio in Medio Oriente nel 1700-1702. Esemplare a cui mancano le prime 173 tavole (relative alle classi I-VII "de herbis et suffruticibus"). I tomi II e III, invece di contenere come previsto solo le tavole, ripetono in parte anche il testo già contenuto nel I. Minuscoli fori di tarlo ai dorsi, che interessano anche i margini bianchi di alcune cc. del vol. 1°; privo della prima carta bianca; qualche macchia e cerniera del piatto ant. in parte staccata. Dorso macchiato al vol. 3°. Si tratta della traduzione latina degli "Elemens de Botanique" (1694). Ex libris: Francisci Lucchini Philosophis et Medicinis Doctoris Romani.

Top edge lightly dust soiled and with just a touch of spotting to the fore edge occasionally encroaching just a fraction to the leaf margins and to the free endpapers. A little light partial browning to the half-title and final text leaf but a lovely crisp copy thereafter. Former owner name and date inked to the head of the front free endpaper. Very good in a somewhat distressed example of the uncommon dust wrapper featuring two further Lamb drawings which do not appear in the text. The wrapper is price-clipped and chipped with two one-inch sized portions of loss to the top edge two further small areas of edge-loss and a little dust soiling and chafing several tiny closed tears and several small areas of surface abrasion. This collection of material was archived by Flora McKay McNulty with the vast majority of it concerning her in particular either as correspondence or records kept by. McNulty acted in a variety of positions and capacities in both the Ladies of the Maccabees of the World and the Ancient Order of United Workmen it appears to be primarily she was the recorder for both. Both of the groups appear to have been very active in the Montana mining town of Virginia City Montana. <br/><br/>The Ladies of the Maccabees of the World were the female auxiliary for the Knights of the Maccabees a fraternal organization that primarily offered low-cost insurance to members. The Degree of Honor were the female auxiliary for the Ancient Order of United Workmen which was a fraternal benefits society that was formed shortly after the American Civil War. <br/><br/>Flora McKay McNulty 1861-1945 was an influential community leader in Virginia City where her accolades are lengthy McNulty was a doctor one of the first female M.D.s in the state was instrumental in the building of the Library patron of the arts paid for the higher education of numerous local young adults and with her sister Mary were at the center of social life in Virginia City for many years. The McNulty home is intact and located in the Virginia City National Historic Landmark District. <br/><br/>This collection spans four decades but most of this collection dates from 1896 to 1902. "Sir William Johnson 1st Baronet c.1715-11 July 1774 was an Irish official of the British Empire. As a young man Johnson moved to the Province of New York to manage an estate purchased by his uncle Admiral Peter Warren which was located amidst the Mohawk one of the Six Nations of the Iroquois League. Johnson learned the Mohawk language and Iroquois customs and was appointed the British agent to the Iroquois. Because of his success he was appointed in 1756 as British Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the northern colonies. Throughout his career as a British official among the Iroquois Johnson combined personal business with official diplomacy acquiring tens of thousands of acres of Native land and becoming very wealthy."-wiki.
