A beautiful copy of this uncommon collection of ghost stories. i-iv v vi 1-321 322 original salmon cloth stamped in black with the scarce DJ. A quote from M. R. James on front flap; "The stories in this volume which introduce the supernatural commend themselves to me very strongly". Mayor was mostly known for her novels of which the most famous were "The Rector's Daughter". The book is in near fine condition slightly cocked spine in a VG or better DJ. Jcaket with some browning to spine and some closed tears and chipping to top and bottom of spine overall much better than normally found for this title. Provenance - From the Gary Munson Collection. A Very Strongly Painted But Fictionalized And Unique Depiction Of Probably Real Events In China's Ruthless Subjection Of The Remnants Of The Tibetan Monarchy Which Itself Had All The Faults If Despotic Rule. Shelton And His Wife And A Daughter And Others Wrote A Number Of Books About Their Experiences; His Collection Of Artwork Was Largely Sold To The Newark Museum Which Prominently Features Their Work Other Artwork Was Sold To John D. Rockefeller Jr. An Archive Of Their Papers And Photographs Is At The University Of Oregon Although We Offer Their Personal Archive. An Archive Of Material By Their Daughter Dorris Including Her Children's Book "Sue In Tibet" And Other Material And A Much Larger Archive Of Dr. Shelton's Annotated Photographs Extensive Scrapbooks Of Clippings And Papers Books Etc. Are Also Available Separately. Such Original Material From Early Twentieth Century Tibet Is Scarce As Most Tibetan Libraries Were Burned By The Chinese Authorities And Writings About Everyday Life In Tibet Itself Have Been Entirely Prevented Or Heavily Censored For Well Over 120 Years The Missionary Writings Being A Striking Exception. <br/> <br/> Unpublished unknown
