This copy with author’s dedication reading: ‘’A mon ami Fernand Lahille, Souvenir bien affectueux” and his signature. On the left upper corner of the title-page is the small library stamp of Lahille. Several annotations in pencil by Lahille in the text.Louis Roule(1861-1942) was a French zoologist and ichtyologist. From 1885 he was a lecturer at Toulouse University, and became professor in 1892. From 1910 until 1937 he occupied the chair of zoology(reptiles and fish) at theMuséum national d'histoire NaturelleinParis. His early research was mainly focused on invertebrates, but later he became one of the leading ichtyologists of his time. He was also quite interested in the history of French naturalists and wrote books on Buffon, Daubenton, Cuvier and Lamarck.Fernand Lahille (1861-1940) was a French zoologist who also wrote on Tunicates. He teached in Toulouse at the same time as Roule, but traveled to Argentina in 1893, where eventually he became director of the Museum de La Plata.
