Moucheron étant un pseudonyme cachant Alphonse, Toussaint, Josephe, André, Marie MARSEILLE, comte Fortia de Piles (1758 - 1826). Grimod de La Reynière étant repris dans les statuts comme secrétaire de cette société et dont Louis-Sébastien Mercier était le Garde des Sceaux. L'auteur est le seul témoin occulaire à faire une description authentique des fameux repas "semi-nutritifs" organisés par Grimod de La Reynière. Livre très important pour la connaissance de la "gastronomie" du début du XIXe siècle en France. Bien complet du frontispice gravé par Mariage, qui est souvent absent. cette gravure représente un repas où huit gourmets sont attablés. Un des convives n'est autre que Grimod de La Reynière, que l'on peut reconnaître par la perruque "ancien régime" qu'il porta même après la Révolution ! Très RARE. Cet exemplaire est dans son "jus" de l'époque. Non rogné avec bords salis mais heureusement avec de grandes marges. Papier en bon état avec quekques traces d'anciennes mouillures; frontispice en très bon état, bien complet de la signature manuscrit de l'éditeur.

Author was Demonstrator and Lecturer in Dairying at the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, Canada. Both hinges open. Above-average wear to exterior which features a charming (albeit well-worn) milkmaid illustration upon front board. Blank 'Notes' pages at end of book contain several pages of handwritten breeding records from the 1930s. No other markings. Despite its heavy wear, this work presents a wonderful overview of dairying in the early 20th century and cannot help but bring a smile to the face of anyone involved in the modern dairy industry. The author's final and most important work, and a standard reference. Patrick Buxton (1892-1955) was one of the leading medical entomologists and parasitologists of his generation. Working in both tropical and desert environments he became an expert in the connections between insect life and human diseases. His most popular work is probably 'Animal Life in Deserts' (1923) but the present work, published in the year of his death, will undoubtedly prove his lasting memorial. Scarce in anything like this condition.
