The authors/editors Manuel Atanasio Fuentes and Miguel Antonio de la Lama compiled the Peruvian civil legislation adding citations notes cross-references and an appendix of laws decrees resolutions and other related regulations. Contains the text of the Peruvian Civil Code which was based on the Napoleonic Code and Castilian law from the colonial era with extensive notes and commentaries of Miguel Antonio de la Lama which include updated legislation digested judicial decisions and treaty provisions which made it a fundamental reference work for Peruvian jurists of the time. This 1870 edition was the first of what would become the standard reference commentary on the Peruvian Civil Code. The work was highly regarded and was reprinted multiple times reaching its sixth and final edition in 1928 before the 1852 code was finally replaced in 1936. It is an essential historical legal text for the study of civil law and the legal history of Peru in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Priced throughout in a contemporary hand.</p><p><em>Reprint of an earlier catalogue for a sale that was supposed to take place in 1808. Caillard 1737-1807 was a French diplomat and man of letters. His was an important library containing notable incunabula classical texts scientific and natural history works and voyages in the finest possible condition and often printed on large paper. Also included are manuscripts and fine bindings. According to Graesse this catalogue 2650 items described is based upon an earlier printed inventory Paris Crapelet 1805; the sale did not actually take place for another two years 1810 November 26 - January 1811 at which time copies of the 1808 edition were reissued with a new cancel titlepage dated 1810. The work has an extensive index. Our copy has the four page schedule of the sale between halftitle and title that is very rare!
