19577041Boston: Little Brown & Co 1957. First Edition First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 6 1/2 X 8 3/8 Inches. 89 PP. Signed on the FFEP by Helen Doss! Helen and Carl Doss were practically household names in the 1940's and 50's thanks to Life Magazine and Reader's Digest. The couple wanted nothing more than to have a family and after realizing they were infertile went on to adopt 12 children of Filipino Hawaiian Balinese Malayan Indian Mexican and Native American descent. There acceptance and love for these children at a time of great division was detailed by Helen in "The Family that Nobody Wanted" in 1955. A very important and early book that continues to ripple in America today. While Helen's premise that a fulfilled woman must be derived from a large family is outdated the lessons of love and acceptance and the struggles of the adoption process that Helen shared are as alive today as they were in the 50's.

Stated "First Edition" of this second book from Helen Doss. Original price of $2.75 intact on front flap. Signed on the FFEP. Back of DJ illustrated with actual photographs of the Doss' adopted children. Light wear to spine ends and folds of DJ. A very attractive copy of this charming book. SCARCE in commerce. Little, Brown & Co hardcover
