Only slight wear; Bright solid book text unmarked; World Scientific Series on Energy and Resource Economics Vol. 5; 8.98 X 6.06 X 0.87 inches; 220 pages; This book offers the first set of quantitative analyses of the results of deregulation of the gas wellhead process coupled with partial deregulation of pipeline transportation and product storage. This complex process which involves taking pipelines out of the field markets as product purchasers and creating spot gas and pipeline space markets has changed the nature and extent of services for gas at the burner tip and the level as well as volatility of prices for these services. Using econometric tools of analysis the authors concentrating on these changes uncover surprising findings in contrast to what regulatory reform was supposed to accomplish.Contents: Quantitative Study Number One: Regional Markets for Gas Transmission Services V Marmer & D Shapiro; Quantitative Study Number Two: Competition Among the Few in the Natural Gas Pipelines Industry After Partial Deregulation N Moshkin; Quantitative Study Number Three: The Basis Differentials as a Measure of Performance in Partially Deregulated Pipeline Transportation Markets P W MacAvoy; Quantitative Study Number Four: Profitability of Natural Gas Storage Resulting from Federal Deregulation N Moshkin; Quantitative Study Number Five: Revising the Model of Gas Wellhead Prices and Quantities for Deregulation . 981270860X . These papers emerged from their annual conference in September 1999 in Atlanta Georgia. In an era in which our conception of what constitutes a "normal" family has undergone remarkable changes questions have arisen regarding the role of the state in "normalizing" families through public policy. In what ways should the law seek to facilitate or oppose parenting and child-rearing practices that depart from the "nuclear family" with two heterosexual parents What should the state's stance be on single parent families unwed motherhood or the adoption of children by gay and lesbian parents How should authority over child rearing and education be divided between parents and the state And how should the state deal with the inequalities that arise from birthright citizenship Through critical essays divided into four parts-Adoption Race and Public Policy; Education and Parental Authority; Same Sex Families; and Birthright Citizenship-Child Family and State considers the philosophical political and legal dilemmas that surround these difficult and divisive questions. An invaluable resource in these contentious debates Child Family and State illuminates the moral questions that lie before policymakers and citizens when contemplating the future of children and families. Part three contains a group of articles under the title 'Political economy and economists' and includes book reviews and essays on the study of economics. Part four collects essays on a variety of topics including Polish economic planning construction engineering and the theory of numbers. As in previous volumes editorial notes and annexes by Professor Osiaty'nski provide invaluable background information and explanatory glosses on the main text.
