194723804Chicago: University of Chicago Press 1947. Reprint. Cloth. Good /good . Stated fourth impression of this seminal volume on ethnic studies in an "Eastern City" Boston. The book's subtitle reads "Corner Gangs Racket and Political Organizations - Their Leadership and Control in an Italian-American Slum". 284 pp. Author's first book. Reprinted many times the book has become a standard college text but when first published in 1943 it received little notice. Wikipedia has given over an entire page to this work. Prior owner bookplate afixed to the front free endpaper. Small stamp to same page. Prior owner name sticker afixed to the inside front pastedown and that same individual has printed his last name on the bottom of the page textblock. The remainder of the book is quite clean and presentable in decorated green cloth binding. The dustwrapper is clipped at front flap and has several chips and paper loss about the edges of the wrapper especially at the top of the spine area. Despite these flaws the book presents very well. Scarce early edition of a classic in the field of sociology. University of Chicago Press unknown books
