The book's subtitle reads "Corner Gangs Racket and Political Organizations - Their Leadership and Control in an Italian-American Slum". 284 pp. Author's first book. Reprinted many times the book has become a standard college text but when first published in 1943 it received little notice. Wikipedia has given over an entire page to this work. Prior owner bookplate afixed to the front free endpaper. Small stamp to same page. Prior owner name sticker afixed to the inside front pastedown and that same individual has printed his last name on the bottom of the page textblock. The remainder of the book is quite clean and presentable in decorated green cloth binding. The dustwrapper is clipped at front flap and has several chips and paper loss about the edges of the wrapper especially at the top of the spine area. Despite these flaws the book presents very well. In-4 relié demi-maroquin brun, (23 * 29 cm), couverture conservée, X pages pour l'introduction, puis 247 pages pour le texte illustré, bien complet du deuxième état de la couverture, les gravures sont sous serpentes. Tête de chapitre, cul de lampe et vignettes. 78 eaux-fortes originales dont 25 hors-texte sous serpente (Collationné complet). Les serpentes portent le titre des 24 gravures hors-texte, une pour chaque conte. La serpente du frontispice est muette. André Dauchez est breton d'adoption mais il livre ici un des plus beaux ouvrages illustré d'eaux fortes sur les contes bretons, si ce n'est le plus beau ; intérieur très frais, bon et rare exemplaire.
