Includes the Club's "Twelve Point Program for Marxist Leninist Youth in the Labor Movement." The CP dissolved the W.E.B. Clubs in 1970 replacing it with the Young Workers Liberation League. One of 150 copies quarto size 4 pp. This keepsake for the joint meeting of the Roxburghe and Zamorano Clubs of California features a short biography of the San Francisco printer Haywood H. A humorous take on some characters in Shakespeare's plays in the form of limericks; for example the fourth stanza reads: "Hamlet I'm sorry to find / Was unable to make up his mind. / He shillied and shallied / He dillied and dallied - / In fact he was over-refined." <br/><br/>With a facsimile on the inner left of hand-written notes made by Beerbohm which was sold as Lot 275 in 1960 at a Sotheby's auction; it is not known that these lines were ever published although there were directions to the printer. Single quarto issue in original woodcut wrappers; 20pp. Overall light soil and wear; internally complete clean and unmarked; Very Good. Final issue of the theoretical and literary organ of the John Reed Clubs of the West headquartered in Hollywood CA. The Editorial Board included the Marxist film critic John R. Chaplin; painter Murray Hantman; German-Jewish Eva Gerson and others. This issue includes a fabulous full-page wood-engraving untitled by Hantman. Other contents include "All Gabriel's Chilluns Got Wings" a "marionette-musical in several acts" attributed to Carlyle Rourke; an extended article on "Science and the Depression" by physicist Morton Mott-Smith; articles by Gerson Louis Livingston others. A very uncommon Depression-era communist literary periodical only six issues appeared between 1933-34 OCLC cataloguing suggests publication continued to 1944; clearly an error as the John Reed Clubs did not survive past 1935. CONFERENCE ISSUE published in conjunction with the Second Conference of the Pacific District International Association of Printing House Craftsmen held in San Francisco July 1926. 8vo. 9 x 6 inches. xii 20 20 16 15 1 blank pp. Portion of the text printed within typographic borders with colored decorative initials the first segment of the text includes report of the Annual Meeting in San Fransisco July 1926 and includes report from officers Haywood Hunt President Frank Rodell Secretary and International Representative of the Pacific District photographic portraits of the Officers of the Pacific Coast Society of Printing House Craftsmen's Clubs mounted on page iv follows are the 4 contributions of the San Francisco Los Angeles Portland and Seattle Clubs including mounted 1 full-page color illustration of San Francisco signed in the plate by the artist full-page color reproduction of an illustration by Charles Marion Russell "American First Printer" 1926 full-page photograph of the Portland Club at a dinner local advertising from each city; text unmarked occasional light foxing. Printed orange wrappers printed paper top cover label; binding square and tight light fading to extremities and spine yapp edges a bit bruised with some minor tears. SCARCE. Very Good. The preliminaries include minutes and notes on the conference the report of the district representative of the International Association Frank H. Rodell and comments by the president of the Pacific Coast Society Hawyood H. Hunt 1888-1974 followed by four individual issues that provide information on the activities of the local branches of the Society lists of officers and members and advertisements for regional companies in the printing and allied trades. The Los Angeles issue contains remarks by A. B. Bruce McAllister often referred to as "Los Angeles' first fine printer" with his partner Harold Young and the San Francisco issue contains interesting biographic remarks about John Henry Nash and Ed and Robert Grabhorn that I have not seen in any other sources. The piece about the Grabhorns by Carroll T. Harris note the Grabhorn's desire to print a "masterpiece" 4 years before their 1930s Leaves of Grass.
