Good. - Octavo three quarter tan calf & marbled boards with gilt-lettered leather labels between raised bands & decorations in gilt on the spines. The top edges are gilt & the endpapers are marbled. The bindings are lightly rubbed with some darkening to the leather at the extremities. Some kind of veneer has been applied to the spines & there are pieces out of the leather & out of the labels affecting the titling. The front cover of Vol. 1 is detached. xxxviii & 434 pages; iv & 398 pages; xii & 399 pages; viii & 469 pages; with a 16-page publisher's catalog in each volume. Illustrated with 45 engraved plates including a portrait frontispiece in each volume & a folding genealogical table. There is an owner's bookplate displaying a coat of arms on each front pastedown with a later owner's ink address stamp & printed address label on the preliminary blanks of each volume. The officers and trustees of the proposed school are listed with Asa French as recording secretary. Some writers on the subject see this as the beginning of agricultural education in the US.
