Very good. - An 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide broadside promoting the American lecture tour of the French socialist politician and journalist Jean Longuet under the auspices of James P. Pond of The Pond Bureau. The broadside is illustrated with a black & white portrait of Longuet beneath the banner title subsequent boldly subtitled at right of the image listing the Subjects of the lectures "Political Forces in France / Factors of French Policy / France's Place in the World / Reparations / The Growing Role of Internationalism" and reassures the potential audience that "M. Longuet speaks English brilliantly and is at great ease in that language as his own. He was born in London". Biographical text is printed in a small font below identifying Jean Longuet as a grandson of Karl Marx in addition to his credentials. Folded once horizontally with a tiny chip to the right edge of the fold. There is some minor faint creasing. Very good.</p><p>The French socialist politician and journalist Jean Longuet 1876-1938 was Karl Marx's grandson. Born in London the family frequently visited Marx and subsequently moved to France in 1881. A pacifist during the First World War he was active in French politics especially the French Section of the Workers' International serving as a mayor and a member of the French Chamber of Deputies. He was originally denied a visa to lecture in the U.S. in 1920 due to his politics and being the grandson of Karl Marx. After the French radicals split into 2 parties Longuet divorced himself from the Russian Soviet communists joining force with Leon Bloom and becoming one of the leaders of the Left-Wing Conservative Socialists. He was subsequently granted a visa in 1922 and toured the U.S.</p> New York: The Pond Bureau, circa [1922].
