1870005740New York: D. & J. Sadlier & Co. 1870. Irish authors Michael Banim 1796-1874 and his brother/collaborator John 1798-1842 first published their works anonymously as "The O'Hara Family." Although very popular during the 19th Century their works are rather uncommon today. These two novels were first published in 1825. This is a Very Good copy of a Later printing part of a set; there is no publication date but dates from the 1870s. Green cloth binding ruled and decoratively stamped on the front cover; titling in gilt on the spine. Clean text; "Peep" goes to page 187; "Crohoore" continues to page 412. Inside a description of the performers each of whom play a variety of brass stringed instruments and drums; plus some reviews of performances. On the back a large portrait of Annie A. Park "Acknowledged the finest Lady cornetist by the best Musical Critics." The piece is cut cleanly across the center perhaps where it had been folded. 1885143501885. A collection of three 19th-Century Photographs of the Mosque of Omar Umayyad and of "Prophet Mahomed's Family Tomb." Overall image size is 8.5" x 11." The image on the left shows the inside court and buildings of The Umayyad Mosque also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus in Syria one of the largest mosques in the world. It is considered by some Muslims to be the fourth-holiest place in Islam and is one of the oldest mosques in the world. The image is titled "Damas - Court de la grande Mosque." Circa 1880s. The center image is an albumen photograph of the interior of the Mosque of Omar Dome of the Rock and the Foundation Stone in Jerusalem. The foundation stone is in the foreground with the intricately decorated architecture of the dome in the background. In the Muslim faith the Dome of the Rock is the site of the Islamic miracle of the Isra and Miraj. The final image shows the Bab al-Saghir cemetery in Damascus Syria where lie the graves of many relatives of Muhammad. A large mosque is visible on the horizon. This image is titled "Damas - Tombeaue de la familile de Mahomed." Damascus - Tomb of the Family of Mohammed. Circa 1880s. A One-inch tear has been skillfully repaired. Commercially produced album to be sold to individuals to house a collection. Minnie O'Shea Fortescue was the mistress of Robert B. Roosevelt TR's notorious uncle. He later married her. Minnie has collected approx. 350 monograms from family members government officials other dignitaries and friends. TR is of course represented. Minnie's B. The covers are scuffed and stained with wear to the joints and head and tail of the spine. 224 pages in all illustrated with a pictorial vignette title page and 3 full-page frontispiece engravings preceding the subsequent title pages. There is evidence of early worming along the front hinge. An early owner's inscription dated 1833 is penned on the front endpaper. There is some minor foxing and soiling throughout with a tiny piece out from the bottom corner of one of the title pages. Good. <p>The four books consist of:<p>1. "The M'Ellen Family: A History. The book remained in the Westcott family for another generation then to their daughter Carrie who married James N. Anderson then passed to Helen W. Anderson who was born in 1892. Rare first and sole edition evidently produced in a very small number of copies; volume III in the series of three books on the Carr family complete in itself preceded by The History of the Family of Carr of Dunston Hill 1893 and of Hetton Ford Castle and St. Helen's Auckland 1894. This although unmarked as such is a familial copy. A handsomely produced family history overseen by Ralph Edward Carr 1833-1892 colonel of the Worcestershire Regiment from 1877 to 1881. This branch of the Carr family prominent in the north east of England were based at Hebburn Hall also known as Ellison Hall situated near a bend of the River Tyne east of Newcastle. An online search of institutional copies finds just 13 locations 6 in the UK the remainder in the US. Quarto. Chromolithograph frontispiece with tissue guard 12 plates and 11 letterpress pedigrees some folding title page printed in red and black. Original maroon morocco-grain cloth designed in emulation of a half morocco binding smooth spine divided by black and gilt bans sides and corners trimmed in the same manner front cover with large gilt stamp of the standard of Sir John Carre taken from plate at p. 104 black coated endpapers. Short closed-tear a head of spine extremities just a little rubbed lower corners bumped a few old marks to covers binding a little shaken dribbled staining to recto of frontispiece not affecting verso nor image manuscript not in the margi at p. 79 yet this remains a very good copy bright and clean. hardcover
