Issued by Family Dog Productions whose founder Chester Leo "Chet" Helms 1942 - 2005 is frequently referred to as the father of that city's Summer of Love. As an influential music producer & organizer he helped start free concerts & other cultural events around the city including at Golden Gate Park the Fillmore & the Avalon Ballroom. The manager of the band Big Brother and the Holding Company he was responsible for recruiting Janis Joplin as the band's lead singer. He also was instrumental in the creation &/or promotion of other bands who came to epitomize the San Francisco Sound associated specifically with the center of the hippie world Haight-Ashbury. Card #1 advertises a Feb 2-4 concert c.1967 at the Avalon Ballroom featuring The Electric Flag Mad River The Fugs & 13th Floor Elevator who only later would add an "s" to their name. Card #2 is a promotional card from 1967 for the bands Quicksilver Messenger & Big Brother and the Holding Company. Printed on thin card stock these 2 large postcards 5" x 7" are unused showing just a trace of surface soil to rear. Psychedelic colors are vivid & unfaded. Just a hint of edgewear/corner bumping.
