There are no library markings or handwriting but some issues do have foxing and spotting both inside and out. There are also some small tears present on the covers. Typically these are only found inbound additions and not in the original subscription format. Volume I has a dark stain on fore-edge of front cover while volume II has a white mark on fore-edge of front cover. Name of previous owner written on front free endpapers of both books. Light browning and foxing to fore-edges of pages. Some pencil marks in margins of text. Volume I has 337 pages with illustrations and footnotes. Volume II has 326 pages with illustrations foldout map footnotes and comprehensive index of both volumes.
