Murray pioneered dance instruction and dance schools to encourage exercise and build self-confidence and poise and was the first to broadcast live dance music on the radio in March 1920. Murray originated the idea of the “footprints†style of teaching dance now an Arthur Murray trademark and this book includes instructions for The Chasse Waltz the Tango foxtrot and The Cortez. In a letter to ‘John O’London’s’ in 1921 Fletcher boasted of having ‘written and published seventy-three novels twelve volumes of collected short stories and fifteen historical and topographical works the last-named mostly of considerable length’. 3pp 12mo. On bifolium. In good condition lightly aged. Folded once for postage. Annotated by recipient with date of response. Addressed to ‘Mr D. Webster.’ and signed ‘J. S. Fletcher.’ He thanks him for ‘the two Chichester pamphlets duly to hand’ noting that one was ‘The Accompt Cleared’ by Roger L’Estrange. ‘This pamphlet was written in reply to a previous one called “A True Account from Chichester concerning the Death of Habin the Informer.’ The only copy he knows of is in the Bodleian and he asks him to look out for a copy. He ends by ordering item 495 from Webster’s ‘Catalogue No. 1’ Yeats’s ‘Trembling of the Veil’ for £2 3s 0d. 24 October 1923; on embossed letterhead: Hambrook, Emsworth, Hants. unknown
