Le "Livre des Bouillons " est un manuscrit remarquable des archives de l'ancienne Jurade bordelaise, commencé au XVe siècle, et achevé au début du XVIe siècle. Orné d'initiales peintes et illustrées reproduites en noir (dans le présent exemplaire, les 45 lettrines répétées tout au long de l'ouvrage ont été dessinées par Léo Drouyn), il contient la majeure partie des chartes de la ville de Bordeaux et des privilèges octroyés aux Bordelais par les ducs d'Aquitaine (et rois d'Angleterre) du XIIIe siècle au XVe siècle. L’autore (1801-1873) fu un celeberrimo orientalista francese. Studioso di fama, pubblicò numerosi studi e scritti sull’Oriente (Cina, India) le isole Ionie e compilò molte traduzioni, tra cui questa di Marco Polo e Confucio. Ha anche tradotto il Saggio sulla filosofia degli indù di Henry Thomas Colebrooke. In-8°, two books, 831, half calf edged binding with title at the back; illustration at the frontispiece, large folded map (slightly torn up) at the end of the second volume. The author was a well-known French orientalist. Famous scholar, wrote many books on China and India, Ionian islands, and many translations, among which that one of Marco Polo and Confucius. He also translated the Essay on the Philosophy of the Hindus by Henry Thomas Colebrooke.
