17151Education Album from Woman studying Teaching at Central State Teachers College in Edmond Oklahoma. 1922-1923. Filled with 48 original silver gelatin print photographs 52 pieces of ephemera and 36 handwritten notes from various classmates. Ephemera includes newspaper clippings handwritten notes programs poems and notes from friends. Photographs of various sizes 2.5 x 4" to 4 x 6". Images of student and their friends around campus at social outings and visiting family. Original brown decorated boards. 10 x 14 inches. Album begins with note on beginning new the teacher's training program: "Starting for College Tues. Sept. 5 1922 with high ambitions for becoming a more efficient teacher." Final photographs in the album are 3 class portraits of primary school students and their teacher. 36 notes and autographs from classmates and friends with inside jokes nicknames for each other and warm memories: "The hours I spend with thee dear heart are as a string of Pearls to me." Another friend added a handwritten letter pasted in: "Shall we ever forget the good times and the bad times we had together at Central during eleven long months I know I never shall if I live to be one hundred." Comes with two programs for 1923 Commencement exercises at Central State Teachers College. The Central State Teachers College is one of the earliest colleges in Oklahoma founded in 1890 as the Territorial Normal School. In 1904 the school became Central State Normal School and in 1919 just 3 years before our student arrived on campus the State Board of Education passed a resolution making Central a four-year teachers' college conferring bachelor's degrees. It was renamed the Central State Teachers College. Today the institution is University of Central Oklahoma. In very good condition. unknown books
