Géomètre, membre de l'Académie des sciences, membre correspondant des l'Académie de Berlin, de Bologne et de Saint Petersburg, Charles Bossut composa cet ouvrage du vulgarisation qui obtint un très grand succès. Mention manuscrite au premier feuillet blanc : "Cette arithmétique de Bossut appartient à Bonneval élève (…), ce 20 novembre 1782". Une suite annoncée ne fut jamais publiée (cf. BnF et WorldCat 23729326). Coiffe supérieure abimée. Bon exemplaire, intérieur très frais.
