Original cloth binding in illustrated red and cream dust jacket featuring a stylized nude female figure. 188 pages. 8vo. A provocative novel published under Comet Press's "Milestone Book" imprint Unchained Desire typifies mid-century erotic fiction's fascination with forbidden and lurid love affairs. Margaret Demetre's novel revolves around themes of interracial tensions sexual longing and emotional confinement offering a dramatized portrayal of female desire at a time when women's agency was both a source of titillation and cultural anxiety. The story centers around a Cuban aristocrat's daughter who bears Black lineage and her love affair with a wealthy white man born of a prejudiced family. Demetre was born in Savannah Georgia to a Greek family. The vast Black population of Savannah as well as her family's immigrant past likely shaped the themes of forbidden love and racial tropes during the pre-civil rights era South.
