1955562647Los Angeles: The Narcotic Educational Foundation of America / The Anti-Narcotic League of America 1955. Unbound. Near Fine. Brochure. Small quarto sheet measuring 8½" x 11". Laid out as a trifold pamphlet i.e. one sheet folded twice to make six pages this copy with two central vertical folds right next to each other. Illustrated with halftone photographs. Folded as mentioned pinhole near the topedge near fine. A vocally anti-marijuana pamphlet; the "evil effects" of marijuana include the story of the young man who decapitated his best friend while high and was utterly horrified after. The pamphlet claims that some people mix it with beer for its stimulating properties and expresses concern that the "poisonous weed" is no longer "confined to our Mexican population and to the regions of the South and Southwest." We attribute the pamphlet to about 1955 because in 1954 the Anti-Narcotic League of America changed its name to the Narcotic Educational Foundation of America and both names are given on the pamphlet. The NEFA is still operational today. OCLC locates no copies of this pamphlet; material published under either imprint seems to be very uncommon.
