br. L'abuso infantile è una piaga sociale che coinvolge il benessere psicologico, fisico ed emotivo. Riconoscerne precocemente i segnali è possibile attraverso l'individuazione di specifici indicatori del maltrattamento al fine di pianificare trattamenti efficaci. "Unhappy childhoods", attraverso l'analisi dei risultati sperimentali riportati dalla letteratura internazionale, inquadra le maggiori evidenze scientifiche in tema di abuso e trascuratezza infantile. Partendo dall'analisi delle espressioni facciali il libro si focalizza sull'emozione della vergogna, quale indice tipico del disagio emotivo sperimentato dalle vittime, proseguendo nell'indagine delle ripercussioni dell'abuso sul funzionamento cerebrale e sulle funzioni cognitive, sull'adattamento sociale e sulla struttura di personalità, aspetti variamente compromessi in una prospettiva a lungo termine. L'abuso infantile porta delle ferite eterne, ma da esso si può guarire, attraverso opportune terapie di tipo psicologico e farmacologico. Di abuso non si dovrebbe mai essere colpiti: in un'ottica preventiva, è necessario il coinvolgimento di chi si prende cura del bambino in quanto nutrimento per il Sé in costruzione.
