This includes a rather large portion missing from the top of the spine of volume 2 and a strip missing between the spine and rear panel of volume 1. Volume 1's jacket also has some water staining to the lower edge of the rear panel. Yellowing and dust soil to both. Both jackets are inside protective covers. The boards show some signs of wear mainly to edges light rubbing to surface cloth. Volume 2's spine head is faded where that piece of jacket is missing. Gilt stamping is dulled. Endpapers of both volumes are lightly discolored from contact with jackets. Pages are clean and bright on both volumes. Bindings are sound. The 2 volumes are contained in an orange 3-part folding case with red cloth spine and elaborate spine label with three Chinese cinnabar-red Yin Zhang chops/seals. . As usual there is some typical minor rubbing to the edges corners a small tear in the top spine hinge area near the label and on the lower hinges towards the bottom otherwise the hinges have been reinforced in the distant past from the inside gutters by and large firm & stable. . There is a scuff to the front cover of the case and a faint crease near the lower right corner. . The slip case has performed its duty of protecting the books from wear. .
