Superman Batman Flash Green Lantern and Green Arrow reappear on Earth-Prime where super-heroes exist only in comic-books and they are unable to return to Earth-One. DC Comics Julius Schwartz explains that certain individuals on Earth-Prime such as some DC writers have the ability to affect reality on Earth-One 1 and that his recent reader survey to determine the JLA's most popular members may have resulted in those five heroes being transported between Earths. Meanwhile Ultraa an alien youth rocketed to Earth-Prime after the death of his race and raised by Australian aborigines has emerged as Earth-Prime's first super-hero and his presence is the force preventing the JLA heroes from returning home. Maxitron the controlling computer of his ship has gone insane and merges with a human scientist to become the first super-villain Ultraa's counter-part. A misunderstanding results in a battle among Ultraa Superman and Green Lantern but finally the three team up to defeat Maxitron with Superman and Ultraa ex-changing identities to prevent the villain from exploiting their respective weaknesses to red solar energy and ultra-sonic sound. Bookplates state "from the estate of William P. Sheffield." Sheffield an attorney from Block Island R.I. served in the State and Federal Houses of Representatives and filled a term in the U.S. Senate in 1884-85. 437 395 pp. 8vo. Navy marbled boards backed with navy leather spines. Four raised bands to spines gold embossed titles and decorative insets. Spines are a bit worn at ends - Volume II a bit more than Volume I. All corners are rubbed revealing board underneath edges have some rubbing. Marble-patterned endpapers with each volume sporting an armorial bookplate on front pastedown. There are a few penciled notations on first fly. Both volumes are tight with occasional foxing and some light soil. A rare set of historically important books. Text in French. Comic Synopsis: Having acquired an Oan Power Ring the irate Galius Zed turns against his comrade Hal Jordan and decides to show him what a true ring-bearer can now accomplish. Hal has little chance against a foe armed with such a superior weapon but Galius Zed quickly learns that the ring taxes his own life energies draining him of power and vitality. A withering Zed collapses before Hal Jordan. Hal calls to mind how this whole business got started. It began with Green Lanterns Eddore and Kaylark. Both of them had come into conflict with a trio of space pirates called the Free Lancers. The Free Lancers showed them how their masters the Guardians of the Universe had crafted a ring that was not inhibited by materials colored yellow. This enraged Eddore and Kaylark and drove them to renounces the Guardians. Kaylark came into possession of her own Oan ring and returned to her home planet D'xe where she crowned herself Empress. Eddore acquired an Oan Power Ring as well and returned to his native world of Tront. With the power of the ring he forced hundreds of Trontians to fuse their essences with his own creating an over-sized being of great power. Hal Jordan came to Tront and fought against the Eddore/Trontian entity. Channeling all of his ring's energy into the being he overloaded it with power causing it to collapse to the ground. Comic Synopsis: Aquaman and Mera arrive at the bunker headquarters to discover their friends gone and a map of Canada their only clue to the team's whereabouts. As Vixen overcomes her claustrophobia to help her team-mates escape the pit trap J'onn J'onzz and Dale Gunn visit Superman's Fortress of Solitude and find that a meteor was responsible for freeing the android. Aquaman and Mera find the now-freed members and administer first aid aboard the L.O.S.T. while they trail Amazo toward Vancouver. J'onzz and Gunn head for St. Jude to discover who Amazo had absorbed in order to determine his motivation and thus they learn of Jake Mac-Gregor's vendetta against those whom he felt had cheated him. In Vancouver Aquaman and Vixen attack the android but neither can resist all the powers of the original Justice League members at once. Steel prevents Amazo from killing them. Amazo is then suddenly confronted by himself in the form of Jake MacGregor who is actually J'onn J'onzz in disguise. The android's confusion allows Aquaman to defeat him and Amazo shuts down once again. Aquaman has decided that his marriage is more important to him than the Justice League and offers his resignation. Meanwhile Steel's grandfather Hank Heywood having discovered that Dale Gunn has changed the locks on the Bunker and feeling that the new Justice League is not a fit group for his grandson decides to come out of retirement as Commander Steel to change the situation "Justice League Vol 1 Issue 243."
