Contemporary mottled calf gilt-stamped spine label page edges stained red. Single tape repair to frontis and larger tape repair to second folding plate. Spine ends chipped joints and corners rubbed but sound. A complete very good copy. <br /> <br /> Early work on childbirth first published by Viardel Cosme queen Marie-Therese's surgeon first published in 1671. Viardel's text was essentially a practical manual based on his experience and was grounded in observed cases rather than theoretical. Childbirth at the time was governed by traditional midwifery but was increasingly recorded and systematized by medical professionals Viardel's book being an example.
