Prima non comune edizione, quattro soli esemplari censiti in ICCU, di questa biografia-elogio scritta dal grande medico parmense Giacomo Tommasini. L'autore di laureò in medicina a Parma all'età di 20 anni. Dopo un periodo di praticantato all'Ospedale di Parma, ottenne una borsa di studio per corsi di perfezionamento sulle nuove metodologie mediche nelle università di Pavia, Padova, Bologna, Pisa e Torino. Fece viaggi di studio anche all'estero, in Francia ed Inghilterra. Nel 1792 ebbe l'incarico di sostituto del prof. Cortesi nella cattedra di medicina pratica. Nel 1794 fu nominato professore di fisiologia e patologia. Le sue lezioni erano talmente apprezzate che ottenne un aumento di stipendio in via straordinaria. Tenne la cattedra fino al 1815. Fu uno dei medici più celebri del suo tempo. In questo scritto ripercorre la vita del noto medico ferrarese Giuseppe Antonio Testa che fu docente di clinica medica e direttore degli ospedali di Ferrara, poi prof. di clinica medica all'univ. di Bologna. Testa si dedicò prevalentemente allo studio delle cardiopatie che illustrò nel suo celebre scritto Delle malattie di cuore, loro cagioni, specie, segni e cura (1810). Pirma edizione in ottime condizioni di conservazione.
