1901182751901. Imperial size albumen portraits of faculty members at a medical school including both men and women faculty members . 1901. Large photo measures 24 x 20 inches. 37 subjects including 7 women. Names listed beneath portraits. Mounted to photographer's board the age of the subjects and size of the group strongly suggest they are not students. Women were not allowed admission to American medical schools for most of the 19th century often leaving the country to receive their education and fulfill residency requirements. For a medical school to have this number of women in student or faculty positions in the year 1901 would have been exceptionally rare. Although female medical schools were eventually established educational activists advocated for integrated institutions so that women received instruction equal to their male peers. Above the year written in Latin reads "Veritatis Lux Ducet" The truth will lead the light. Toning does not affect images. Overall in very good condition. unknown
